Tiffany Studios, Tiffany favrile glass Cypriote Vase. Double gourd form, signed L.C. Tiffany favrile 3071P, with the original Tiffany paper label, measuring 5″ h. x 4 1/2″ w. Unusual shape. Description: In the Cypriote technique, Tiffany sought to simulate glass excavated from archaeological sites on Cyprus. To replicate the surfaces of buried artifacts, particles of metallic oxides were applied to a mass of molten glass. This created a chemical reaction that pitted the surface of the glass when it was held to a flame. A gather of molten glass was rolled over a steel plate covered in pulverized silica rock, a process which also pitted its surface.
