Welcome to Linda's Unique Antique. Linda started her antique business 25 years ago, in Bedford Hills N.Y. with a small store in an old Victorian home. The store housed other shops specializing in crafts. Since she had loved antiques all her life, Linda decided to sell a general line of antiques. After studying art glass, in particular, Tiffany Studios, Tiffany Lamps, and Tifany Favrile she started with a few pieces (from the 20's.) She has been in the "mail order" business for the last 20 years with countless satisfied customers. She also carries art deco, arts & crafts (20's) such as Steuben Glass items as well as Georg Jensen sterling, especially Jensen jewelry. She specializes in the art nouveau and deco periods. All items are signed and guaranteed as represented with a 7 day return policy.

Intoduction to the Work of Louis Comfort Tiffany

Louis Comfort Tiffany, (1848 - 1934) developed a unique type of glass. In addition to colors found in other art glass, the Tiffany glass shows movement in form and shape. The glass is very versatile. It is found in single as well as multiple-layered glass. Tiffany glass is sometimes iridescent, transparent or translucent as well as opaque. Many colors are used in many different combinations. Regarding rarity of color, gold iridescent, is the most common, then blue, green, white, yellow, brown, amethyst, black, and red. Red is the rarest color. There are also a group of pastel shades, in the same order of scarcity.

In decorated iridescent glass, the decorations are usually colored fibers of glass laid on the original piece and hooked with metal wires to form a design. Once the design is applied, two or more layers of glass are rolled on the working board until there is a single layer of glass with the decoration worked in. The shapes and decorations are created to complement each other like no other glass.

There are many different techniques in Tiffany glass. Among them are decorated glass, millefiore, paperweight, engraved intaglio, cypriote, lava glass, agate, cameo glass, peacock feather and diatreta. The scope of Louis C. Tiffany's work was great. He also designed wonderful lamps and desk pieces in a combination of bronze and glass.

Tiffany studios glass has remained some of the finest glass available for many years now. Understanding the quality and how to confirm authenticity are important for the collector of one piece or many.
